How to pick and cut a pineapple
When we went grocery shopping people were buying stuff like crazy. Although we found there were still many pineapples left. I grabbed one without hesitation since pineapple is one of my most favorite fruits! Some people might not know how to correctly cut them, and just buy already cut pineapple. But if you buy a whole one and cut it at home, it’s cheaper and tastier! Today I’ll show you how to pick and how to cut a pineapple.
When you pick a pineapple keep these things in mind:
Pineapples don’t get sweeter even if you leave at them at room temperature for days. The sweetness of pineapples won’t change after they are harvested.
Check the color. If the skin color is yellow and not too green, there is a higher chance the pineapple is ripe. (Not always, though)
Check the bottom. If the pineapple has been at the store for a long time, the bottom gets moldy. Avoid those pineapples.
Aroma. If the pineapple has a nice, sweet aroma, that is a sign for a sweet pineapple.
Soft skin. Pineapples are covered with hard skin but if the pineapple is ripe, it gets slightly softer.
How to cut pineapples.
Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple. About 1/2 inch on each side.
Cut into half lengthwise.
Place cut side down and cut into half.
Cut into half again. At this point the pineapple should be cut into 8 pieces.
Cut out the core.
Place knife in between skin and meat.
Remove skin and cut the meat into bite size pieces.
Cut pineapples are freezable. When you’re ready to eat frozen pineapple, put it in the fridge for around 30 minutes, and then serve when it’s still half frozen. If you defrost completely, the juice will come out.
